With summer winding down, school is about to be back in session. For most kids, they are dragging, not ready to give up the carefree days of summer, but my daughter is not one of them. She is so excited to head back to school and learn more things. She inspires to be a Paleontologist one day and loves to learn all she can. I love to help her succeed and willing to offer anything she needs to help further her education. One thing she has been asking for was a laptop. I didn’t get my first smartphone until I was almost 18, and only recently purchased my own laptop, so this is something I wasn’t too sure about getting. I asked a close friend on mine what she thought, as she teaches 4th grade at my daughter’s school and she mentioned how a lot of schools are asking for parent’s to get their children a laptop to use at home and in her Gifted and Talented class, she is purchasing 5 tables for her class to use to complete projects and research throughout the year. After talking with her, I decided she was right and Aubreigh needs a laptop she can use at home for educational games, apps, and for fun.

After researching myself, I decided that a Chromebook would be the best solution for her, and I knew exactly which brand I wanted to get for her. I love Acer, and have a few of their products I use myself daily and they can withstand my constant abuse. I am a blogger and Virtual Assistant so my laptop and tablet is my best friend and rarely get any rest. Acer offers many different products including PC’s, Laptops, Displays, Projectors, Tablets, Smartphones and more. My personal best friend is the Iconia Tab. She has saved me more often than not and she is very reliable. I knew for my daughter’s first laptop I wanted it to be an Acer.

I received the Acer Chromebook R 11 to check out and let me first start out by saying this, it is simply amazing. The first thing I want to talk about is how cool and versatile the Chromebook R 11 is. It can be moved into 4 different setups. The first, of course, is the laptop. Next, you can make it like a tent, which is great for small spaces or if you are in the car or plane and want to watch a movie. The third is a display. This is where the keyboard is face down. It is great to place on a table and use for solving math problems or using the calculator. Finally, and my most favorite, is the pad mode. This turns your Chromebook R 11 into a tablet!! Yes, the Chromebook R11 is both a laptop and a tablet. Not only is this great for kids, but it is also awesome for busy moms. This is very helpful when you are cooking dinner and using a recipe.

The style of the Chromebook R 11 makes it feel like a luxurious and expensive tablet. The top cover is made out of premium aluminum and is imprinted for a textured finish. This makes it so easy for moms to carry while toting a child in the other arm. Also, it is easy for kids to carry around. Neither kids nor moms want to be lugging around something heavy, so the R 11 is only 2.76 pounds. Next, I want to discuss the screen size. While I prefer bigger, a lot of the Chromebooks are made to be smaller and more portable. The R 11 features an 11.6 Inch HD screen with a wide viewing angle as well as an HD webcam, which is perfect for Aubreigh when she wants to Skype with her Auntie Jeni. I’m not gonna lie, I am totally jealous over the Hi-Def of this screen. I might just have to use it while Aubreigh is at school.

Battery life, now this is something that a lot of laptops suck at. It doesn’t matter if its the most expensive laptop, the battery is going to run out quick. The Acer Chromebook R 11 says that the battery will run up to 10 hours. From our experience, it has lasted a lot longer than that. I would say we have received about 18 hours out of one charge. I have been really impressed with the battery life, even my computer doesn’t get 10 hours. Something that has been a little hard adjusting to is Chrome OS. Now for me, I’m a Windows girl so it is a little confusing at first, but for Aubreigh she went straight into using it and even showed me a few things that I didn’t know.

It’s compact and light, perfect for kids her age. I think these days, it’s essential to have a laptop or a tablet that the kids can use for homework and studying. The chromebook sounds like the perfect solution for that.

These little laptops/tablets are the coolest things. I have wanted one for some time, but I just can’t afford it at the moment. Trust me, though, I will have one soon!

I’m just amazed at how much the schools use computers now both in the classroom and for the kids to have for homework. Even the elementary schools assign computer homework! Smart thinking to get a computer for the kids of their own.
