Every home will eventually need to have some plumbing work done on it. When these types of jobs become necessary, you will need to find a good plumber. While every city has an enormous amount of plumbers to choose from, they are not all the same. They will differ greatly in their levels of experience and work ethic. So how can you find the best plumber to entrust with working in your home? There are several key qualities that all good plumbers possess. Fortunately, it is easier than ever before to find a plumber that has these qualities. Here is what to look for in a plumber. To find out more information visit South Boston Drain Specialist.

1. How long has the company been in the plumbing business?

This is an important factor that must not be overlooked. Many people make the mistake of believing that every plumber they see listed in the phone book has a high level of experience. This is simply not the case. Needless to say, you do not want a person who is inexperienced to be working on the pipes in your home. Since you are paying your hard-earned money for plumbing service, you want to get the best your money can buy. Before you agree to hire a plumber, find out how long he or she has been in the business. Ideally, you do not want to hire a plumber with less than five years of experience. Winters Home Services is a company that has been around for more than 20 years. If you are looking for a south Boston drain specialist, go to for more information.

2. Are they licensed and insured?

You would be surprised how many people are working as plumbers without the necessary credentials. Before you let a plumber set foot in your home, check their license to make sure it is for your state and it is still valid. Unknowingly allowing an unlicensed plumber to do work on your home can open you up to a host of problems if something should go wrong down the road. Insurance is a must because this will protect you in case the plumber causes expensive damage to your home.

3. Emergency service

Plumbing emergencies can happen for any number of reasons. When they do, you want to have a plumber who will show up and fix the problem immediately. In some cases, having a plumber show up the next day is unacceptable.

I really appreciate this information on how to find the best plumber. My husband and I just moved here from another state and we are in need of a plumber here. I like that this mentions the importance of finding a company that is licensed and insured to make sure you are getting the best treatment. Thanks for the information!

I knew to check if a plumber was licensed, but I hadn’t thought about whether they are insured or not! I appreciate the ideas of what to look for. I didn’t really think about how many years a company had been in business. But now that I’ve looked at a few of our options, it seems like one fairly new company might have low rates to pull in new customers. Do you think that’s worth the gamble? Or should I stick with the plumber that was recommended by a neighbor?

This is a great list and I feel like you’ve hit on some important points to ask about. I would add to your third point about emergency service to find out how emergency service charges might be different from regular charges. That would be a huge deciding factor for me.

As you say, plumbing issues can quickly become emergencies, and immediate attention is required to minimize damage. Do plumbing companies have the ability to guarantee immediate attention? I thought it usually depended on other circumstances and how busy their technicians were, but I would be interested to know how to figure out if emergency service is offered. Thanks for your tips!

I like that the first thing you mention is how long they have been working in this industry. I think experience is a huge factor when having to choose a good plumber. You don’t want them to be spending hours trying to fix the problem or have someone make the problems worse. Most likely these experienced plumbers are licensed and insured. Those are they types of plumbers you should go after.

Many industries function smoothly by constantly dumping the waste, toxic chemicals, biodegradable products frequently in the drains. But soon this result in clogging of drains thus preventing the water flow from the pipes and disrupting the entire system. It can really play havoc to work and its efficiency! The foul stink gradually occurs which further prevails the entire system by creating a disaster if not treated immediately.

I really loved the second tip about making sure they have a valid license that’s still active in the state you’re living in. That would be important so that you have a better indication if they’re qualified and up-to-date with their plumbing skills before they step into your home. I’m definitely going to have to keep these in mind when we get a plumber over! Thanks!
