Grilling season is coming up, which means hamburgers are going to be grilling! Check out my fail proof way to make homemade french fries.
Homemade french fries are one of the most common side dishes that is eaten in the United States. Along with hamburgers, they are often served beside many other meat dishes. Sure it is easier to just buy the frozen ones, but did you know that making homemade french fries is just as easy and tastes a lot better?!
Is there a best variety of potato to use when making homemade french fries?
Well, this would really depend on who you ask. While some prefer to use the classic Russet potato, others like using red potatoes. Then there are some that will only use Yukon Gold! You can even go with a sweet potato for a change of pace in your recipe. Just go with the potato your family likes most.
What is the best way to make fries? Should you deep fry them or bake them in the oven?
This is another that really depends on personal preference. Sure, deep frying homemade french fries is delicious, but they are also very greasy and not what one needs if they are on a diet. I prefer to bake the potatoes. They come out just as crispy and not soaked in grease.
Cooking Homemade French Fries
This is seriously so easy!! First, you would take your potato and use a handy potato slicer (seriously, you need this in your life). Once you get your potato sliced up, you can either deep fry or bake in the oven. If you deep fry, let your oil heat up to 375 degrees and fry until golden brown (about 5 to 6 minutes). If you are baking, preheat your oven to 425 degrees, brush oil on your fries, and bake for 20 minutes.
Seasoning Homemade French Fries
Most people simply sprinkle salt on their french fries. While that does taste good there are so many other options that can be used. Here are a few of my favorite ways to season them:
• Garam Masala – This is a blend of spices which is widely popular in Indian Cuisines. Cardamom, Cumin, Black Pepper, Cloves and other hot spices is what makes up this delicious blend. It can be found in the international food aisle in your grocery store.
• Coriander – This seasoning will add a lemony and sweet flavor to your homemade french fries. This is one of my favorite add ones. This seasoning best comes out when you back your french fries.
• Garlic Salt, Black Pepper, and Oregano – Use 3 TBS of Garlic Salt and 1 TBS of the other seasonings will give your fries a distinct and delicious taste. Sprinkle the fries while they are still hot.
French fries may be an American staple but they don’t all have to taste alike. The type of potato you use, how you prepare them and the seasonings you choose can all have an effect on the flavor of your homemade French fries.
