Starting as an arch support company in Belmont, Massachusetts in 1906, New Balance has grown tremendously. They introduced their first running shoe in 1961, called the Trackster. Their products now range from running shoes all the way to sandals. Something that has always set New Balance apart from other brands is they have always set their attention to craftsmanship and making their shoes for a wide range of sizes, width and length wise. Their growth over the decades have made them part of a family of brands, including not only New Balance but Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon, Warrior and Brine. New Balance has a unique philosophy, “Endorsed By No One”, which in turn means they don’t reach out for these big superstar marketing techniques. They let their shoes speak for themselves with the everyday athletes who choose New Balance because of not only the fit, but the performance as well.
Sweet Southern Lovin had the opportunity to work with New Balance to review their Fresh Foam 980 Road. I was sent the women’s Blue Aster with Hot Pink and White and the girl’s Diva Pink with White and Blue Atoll. Created with a lower mid-sole from a single piece of foam which in turn provides a more natural underfoot feel, as well as stability all while being soft. The Fresh Foam 980 also is created with a breathable air mesh with simple no-sew overlays.
To say I was excited to work with New Balance is an understatement. I was beyond thrilled. It also couldn’t have come at a better time, with school starting back. When I first opened them up I was met by their bright beautiful colors. Pulling them out of the boxes I just knew the girls and I were going to love them on our feet, they were so light. We can’t stand a heavy shoe. With me starting up a routine with exercising and knowing the girls would be joining me on my jogs, I knew these shoes would be perfect for that. They girls were so excited to get them on their feet. They said they loved the light feel of them and and how the air was able to get in the shoe when they were running. That is a big deal in our house. My girls play rough and their feet sweat, but they can’t stand for the inside of their shoes to get sweaty. With the New Balance Fresh Foam they didn’t have that issue because of the awesome breathable mesh. I have to agree, when jogging I could literally feel the air coming into my shoe. Oh my goodness, the comfort of these area amazing. When you wear these you can feel the softness in the sole of them, especially at the heel area.
I love the flexibility of the Fresh Foam 980 shoes as well. I don’t fell like I had to “break the shoe in” for them to feel comfortable. They felt like they were made for my feet the minute I put them on. The girls felt the same way. Usually when we buy them new shoes, they are always saying they are hard. The first thing that came out of their mouth after putting on their New Balance Fresh Foam 980’s is how soft they were. They were even saying how easy it would be to run so fast in their new shoes.
If you are an active person or just want some super comfortable shoes, I highly recommend you try out the New Balance Fresh Foam 980 Road Shoes. Having plantar fasciitis, I need a shoe with great foot support and cushioning. I get that with these. I don’t wake up in the morning with my feet tight from jogging because my shoe wouldn’t bend with my foot.
