Recently, I came across a little girl’s clothing company that I fell in love with. Within minutes of browsing their website, it became my new favorite place to buy dresses for daughter. The company, Princess Awesome, breaks down gender stereotypes by creating fun dresses with designs that are traditionally limited to boy’s clothing. They also empower girls to express themselves and wear what they love.
Eva St. Clair and Rebecca Melsky brought Princess Awesome to life in 2013. The two moms realized that so many little girls were into rockets, math, dinosaurs, and all the other things boys like, but the clothing available did not reflect these interest. They set out to create a clothing line where girls did not have to choose between dresses and ruffles or ninjas and robots. The two created their first batch of dresses in Eva’s basement in the fall of that year. The dresses became so popular, they realized the need to invest in factory production, but they lacked the finances. In February 2015 Melsky and St. Clair created a Kickstarter campaign. A month later, they exceeded their goal and became highest performing childrenswear Kickstarter ever.
I can’t begin tell you how excited I was when Princess Awesome sent me their “Fleur-de-Lift-Off” Rockets Twirly Play Dress to review. The bodice is black and the skirt sports hot pink rockets launched among curly contrails and other designs. The twirly skirt also has hidden pockets. I love, love, love this dress and if they had it in adult sizes, you better believe I would have one hanging in my closet.
This dress is perfect for my toddler because it reflects her eclectic personality. She loves dressing up and playing with dolls sometimes, but at other times, she is rough, rowdy, and loves getting dirty. The dress lets her show her love for twirly dresses, robots, and bright colors all at the same time.
Well made from quality 100% cotton fabric, the dress has an exceptionally soft feel. I don’t worry about it showing much wear anytime soon, because the colors have stayed bright, even after repeated washing. The dress is available in various sizes. You can pick one up for $39.95. There are definitely several more dresses I have my eye on. I just can’t decide whether to go with the dinosaur or the atomic flurry next. I may have to just go with both.
Princess Awesome also sent me the most adorable Pi earrings for my oldest daughter and I have to admit, I am a bit jealous. I am a huge nerd at heart, so even though I am not a jewelry person, I absolutely adore them. The earrings are made using 3D printing and they are .75″ tall. They feature hand-assembled surgical steel, nickel free hooks. They come in various colors and you can find them for $16.99 right on the website.
