There is an older lady that lives right across the street from us. She is at least in her 90’s, but she doesn’t let it slow her down. She is outside in her yard always doing something. I even saw her washing her car the other day. So you may be asking… um.. how is that spreading the cheer. Well, she is always by herself. No one ever comes to visit her. She is outside doing the yard herself because none of her kids or grandkids will come help her. None of her kids or grandkids will help her come wash her car. I will admit, for about a year I thought she was this mean old hermit who hated everyone. Until one day while I was walking my dog and had my kids in tow. She walked outside and smiled. While walking back to the house, she told me how wonderful of a family I had and to hold them close. Since then I have gotten really close with her.
I do a little bit of baking every year and I visited my local Kroger to pick up some baking supplies and some Betty Crocker cookie mix so that over Thanksgiving break the girls can make some cookies and enjoy them. At Kroger, I was able to pick up some Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix ( it is a huge 1.5 lb bag that made 3 dozen cookies) some cookie cutters, some green frosting ( I wanted to make some Christmas trees) and then some little candies for decorations and such. We started cutting out the dough and baking and then started frosting the cookies. Aubreigh asked me what we were going to do with all of these cookies. I didn’t know they were going to make this much. I told her we were going to eat them and stay on a sugar rush all weekend.
What my daughter said next got my heart. She asked me if the lady across the street was going to have her family over for Thanksgiving. I told her that I wasn’t sure. She then asked me if we could take some cookies over to her. I told her of course. Well after we were done decorating the cookies we went over there and greeted her with warm and friendly hugs and even warmer cookies. She joined us for Thanksgiving dinner and during our prayer she was thankful for having a Thanksgiving dinner with someone other than her cat in over 10 years. We are already planning a huge and wonderful Christmas dinner and can’t wait for her to join us again.
