It is back to school time. I can’t believe it is time to head back to school. My daughter is in the first grade this year and I get so worried about her eating right when she is in school and I get worried that I am not sending her everything that she needs to have a healthy lunch. Well that was until I found Natures Harvest® bread. This bread is simply amazing and it is packed with so much goodness that I do not know how I have missed it in the grocery store. There is seriously at least 8 grams of whole grains in every serving.. umm… how did I not know this? That is just the tip of the ice burg with this bread. Check out all of these amazing facts about this awesome bread that is perfect for back to school.
- No artificial flavors, colors or high-fructose corn syrup
- ALL Nature’s Harvest varieties carry the whole grain stamp.
- Whether Made with Whole Grain White, Honey Wheat-or any other variety, moms be sure it’s made with whole grains because it says Nature’s Harvest.
So now.. I know this isn’t the most cutest sandwich you have ever seen, but it is packed with so much goodness and taste so good that my daughter loves it. Her favorite movie is the Little Mermaid. That is where I got the idea of this sandwich. It kinda reminds of the things you would find undersea on a fun adventure. She loves me sending this with her to lunch and I don’t worry about it either because it is packed with so much goodness. I have even fixed me and my husband the same sandwich and we just control ourselves. It is so good. This sandwich has two parts to it that makes it taste so delicious and it is really a “add whatever your kid loves this most” type sandwich. The main things are the sub sauce and the mayo. This is how I make those!
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
2 TSP Italian Seasoning
2 Cloves Garlic
1TSP Onion Powder
Salt and Pepper to taste
• Take all ingredients and mix well. I like to place this sauce on top of either lettuce or tomatoes once I am done making my sandwich.
2 TBS Mayo ( your choice, I personally use Dukes.)
1 TBS Olive Oil
2 TSP Dried Oregano
1 TSP Dried Parsley
1 TSP Garlic Powder
1 TSP Onion Powder
1 TSP Black Pepper
Salt to taste
• Mix everything in a bowl, chill for about 25 minutes. Serve over bread.
Now on to my sandwich. You can’t really enjoy this sandwich without using Nature’s Harvest. It just has the taste and the texture that completes this sandwich. I have had this before, but usually on sub rolls, which really isn’t that healthy for you honestly. So I wanted to try this with Nature’s Harvest bread, which is on rollback at Walmart for only $1.97 and for all of this goodness packed into one slice of bread is pretty awesome. There are more varieties and flavors for the bread but because of the rollback I was only able to find the Honey Wheat at my local store. So with this sandwich you pretty much add in whatever you want, just like what you would find on the ocean floor. Of course spread the mayo (which ends up looking like the ocean floor) all along the bread, then add your toppings. On my sandwich I added provolone cheese, salami, ham and bologna. Along with some shredded lettuce, shredded cucumber and topped with a tomato and the sub sauce.
